I'm toying with this idea of creating a fun personae for Barnes & Noble since there will no doubt be kids. Costume would be a purple cloak, white poet's shirt, wizard staff (natural), time turner, dumbledore pocket watch, Alivans wand:

"Hi - I'm Prof. Milleniel Epoch and I teach both History of Magic and Muggle Studies at the Salem Witches Institute in
Salem, Massachusetts. Since I will most likely cast a mass memory charm on you at midnight, I can tell you that for researchand better understanding of Muggles, I go by the name B.K. DeLong and am an Editor on The Leaky Cauldron Harry Potter fan site.

What I am about to read you is part of a History of Magic. Not as old as the pointlessness of the 17th Century Witch burnings - quite recent in fact. I am about to tell you the story of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named's return in June of 1996 and the event which finally forced the population of the Wizarding World as a whole to come to terms with it.

Chapter 38 - The Second War begins."

Thoughts? comments?

I think the idea is cool, but what did the lady from B&N expect of you? Did she want you to do a character, or come as you? I thought the point was that *you* were the celebrity guest star- you're not attending this as an actor, but as B.K. DeLong. I think going in character might defeat the purpose- you're the star, not Professor Epoch.

Spoke with her this morning and she thinks there will be a lot of big fans and kids. The whole staff there is apparently dressing up so she likes the idea.

Are you afraid to be seen with me?!? ;P

I'm thinking that with it being a midnight event, a concern would be the age of the crowd. If I'm remembering from last time correctly, a lot of the people there were 'tweens and their parents. I'm thinking a character reading would be better suited for a slightly younger audience than we're going to see at a midnight event.

BK, I LOVE the idea!! I think that all ages would find it charming. Keep in mind, that almost everybody there will be a crazed Potter fan, and the fact that this will be The Night will only amplify that. Everybody is going to be in the HP mood and I would think very open to your imaginative costume and character.

You must send pictures :)

Milenial Epoch-LOL! But I wonder if because the tone of this book is so much darker and more "serious", your outfit should be too?

Right, right....hrm. Maybe I could be an Auror or something more Ministry-like... an ascot and lace ruffs with the poet's shirt? Black cape?

Ideas??

I like the idea and the costume, although making it a bit darker might be a bit more thematically correct. There's got to be something black you can add to it. :)

Of course, if the idea is that you are are the special guest for the midnight party, you should just go with that. Admittedly last minute, but if you could contact the B&N and see what they had in mind that'd probably be the best idea.

They expected me to be in costume and like the personae idea as long as I mention TLC with great prominence.

I think the black cape would be the best. I'd normally think, "Cape in the summer = too hot," but am figuring the B&N will be air conditioned.

OK, I wasn't sure if they were expecting you to show up in costume or to just appear in your pure TLC deity form. :D

BRILLIANT IDEA!!!

I think everybody will adore it ... especially since the only people who will go to a book release on a Saturday at midnight will be diehard fans. And, no doubt, many of them will also be dressed up in costume for the event.

Have an amazing time & ... I want pics!!! ;~))))))
