Twitter, Livejournal, Cross-Pollination and how to OPT OUT!

OK folks. I'm still having the occasional person friend me and then realize I mostly microblog via Twitter due to spending the last ~6 months working on 3 Productions, having a new child and various other things in my life.

I also hear quite a bit of bitchyness here and at Arisia this weekend about people on Livejournal who don't like reading people's Twitter aggregates on LJ friend listsfor various reasons whether they have a Twitter account or not.

I already did a post here stating that you can OPT OUT of my Twitter posts. When I friend you and you see them, just drop me a quick note. IM, Email, Comment, SMS, Call etc. Don't drop me from your Friends List simply because LJ did a poor job to make it easy to filter out certain posts.

Those of you who want to respect your LJ readers should implement LoudTwitter Twitter-to-Livejournal posts this way which allows you to remove someone from the filter.

I know a lot of you already follow me on Twitter. However, I am up to 577 followers and 403 people I'm following so I prefer the summaries. Makes it easier than going back to see what I missed.

Questions?

Boxers or Camembert?

Both actually, the latter is far comfortable than other options and I do have an eclectic taste for the many varieties of cheese.

I still wish I could see the comments that you are replying to via twitter. There are some comments there that indicate a longer version is somewhere, but I never do find it. Am I missing something? Your loving mother.

For [@Account] discussions you can always go to http://twitter.com/[account] to see what it was but as far as I know there is not yet a script where Twitter will post those micro-conversations.

But that is an interesting option or service to consider. Allow people to specify to include the tweet of the recipient of one of your @ replies if it includes you as a recipient as well. The problem is, many folks are responding to non directed tweets and unless Twitter clients are feeding back tweet UIDs to the server when someone uses a "reply" function rather when something is typed in manually, I'm not sure that is possible.

Yeah, I actually don't do the Twitter thing at all. So you can take me off that filter at least. Thx.

i'd like to see it...just not under a cut i have to click on. i hate having to navigate away from my main friendspage, but do want to read it.

There is a great Firefox extension called "Firefox Addons" that will turn LJ cuts into + signs that you can expand or contract - even picture ones - without having to navigate away from your friends page.

So I followed the link to the page about using the LiveTwitter email options, but can't parse it in a way that tells me how to make it (I assume this is what you're suggesting) automatically filter to a specific friends group. It's possible I'm just not familiar enough with LJ code. Enlighten? Because that's what I would like to do with my tweets!

No prob. I'll make a post on it soon.

basic gist is...create an account on LoudTwitter, a "twitter" Filter on LJ, setup LJ to allow you to email post, then when you're setting up formatting at LoudTwitter, you paste this into the "text to add at the beginning of the post" -

lj-security: twitter
lj-mood: [defaultmood - optional]
lj-tags: [tags, comma separated, optional]
lj-userpic: [userpic keyword - optioal]

[Text to go before twitters]

<lj-cut> (if you want one)
